The Campaign Begins

There are presidential elections in Mongolia next month. Unlike the US, where stumping begins two years out and stays relentless until after the actual election. Candidates here weren’t even chosen until a couple of weeks ago. There is a ger that has been set up within eye-shot of our window, that I am suspicious is a ‘campaign ger’. In any case, I am sure it will not make the headlines Obama/McCain made. However, it might prove to be just as interesting (it’s the Socialist MPRP vs. the Democratic party).

You can follow the action here.

A Couple of Firsts

The weather here has been warming up significantly! I think we almost hit 70 degrees the other day … that’s summer time! While we had a chance, I broke out the grill the other night and cooked up some t-bones that I found at a local German butcher. I must say … they were quite tasty!

Another first we’d like to share with you actually happened a couple of weeks ago. We have had our first English classes and speaking cafe at the Grain of Wheat Student Center! It has been great to see so many Mongolian young people come into our doors for these activities! God has already opened up doors for interesting discussions about life and spirituality. We’ve also seen several of these students come back to meet friends and to use the library/study room. The school year is winding down here. Next month many of the students will go back to their country-side homes. But we are already planning for big things next school year, and thinking and praying through summer programming.
